Teach your puppy how to surf

I’m sure you all have seen videos of dogs on a surfboard out in the ocean, and you wonder ‘How in the heck did they teach the dog to do that?’. Well, in the dog training video below we will show you one of the many ways that you can get them started.

The dog in this video is only 4 months old. It’s summertime in Las Vegas and the weather is very warm, so I get to spend lots of time thinking of fun things to do with my puppy while near water.

This puppy already knows what a place command is, and that is the ability to stay on an elevated platform on land. He is also familiar with being on a platform while it is moving. I then extended that to teaching him how to ride a skateboard, which was basically a platform that was moving. Here is a video of my puppy learning to ride a skateboard.

These principles are then carried over to water, where the puppy is just learning the same balance and staying on an object except that he is now doing it in water instead of on land.

You can also practice this first on land by vibrating an object, or simulating movement while he is standing or sitting on it. Perhaps riding him in a wagon or something similar will also make him comfortable in different environments.

Dogs love to learn, and showing them a lot of different pictures really helps their confidence.
