This is part two (Click LABRADOR RETRIEVER to see part 1)of teaching a Labrador retriever puppy to honor while another dog runs. The puppy is again started in a kennel and placed close to the water.
This time though the older dog is set back a little ways so that he will have a good bit of speed coming by the puppy, and the puppy will further understand the command to stay there even when motion is going by.
This can initially be practiced with just placing your dog in a kennel with a variety of dogs running all around and the puppy just learns to sit still with a lot of motion around before you carry it to this step.
The puppy also has to know to be able to sit in the kennel and not just spin or run around or jump on the kennel, but just to sit there.
You will see that the puppy will sit there while the dog returns past him as well. If the puppy does get up, I already have him trained with the sit means sit remote dog training collar that I will be able to place him back into a sit position.
A dog or a puppy get a firmer understanding of the command if you can do it from both next to you and away from you which is also referred to as ‘remotely’.
